EDUCATION Genesee County is home to multiple institutes of higher learning, including two colleges, four universities and eight satellite campuses. We are proud to be home to such impressive centers of academic excellence and of the many successful graduates who have earned degrees and started careers here. Below are just a few of our higher education institutions: Kettering University Kettering University is ranked number one in the country for industrial and manufacturing engineering and number two for mechanical engineering by U.S. News & World Report. Known for top-ranked undergraduate programs in engineering, math, science and business, Kettering University is home to the most advanced cooperative education program in the nation with 700 corporate sponsors from around the world. Kettering offers 12 science, business and engineering undergraduate majors and 11 graduate degrees. Enrollment exceeds 2,000 undergraduates and more than 600 graduate students in management, manufacturing operations, engineering and information technology. University of Michigan-Flint As U of M's first branch campus established in 1944, the University of Michigan-Flint has brought to Genesee County the pride in academic excellence and tradition the U of M is known for. Featuring a modern riverfront campus in downtown Flint, the university offers more than 70 undergraduate majors and 16 graduate degree programs, including doctorate degrees in physical therapy and nursing. The campus stretches across the river to the William S. White Building, a $35.6 million professional studies and classroom facility. Baker College Baker College has been Michigan's largest career-oriented independent college for the last 100 years. With 16 branch locations, Baker boasts a 98% employment rate for graduates. Mott Community College Mott Community College is a leading research institution offering affordable and accessible education that provides the total college experience. Mott is responsible for developing career programs for the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Labor. MCC educational opportunities and services include associate’s degrees, university transfer and technical and lifelong learning programs to county residents. The new Regional Technology Center (RTC) trains southeast Michigan residents for high-tech jobs, focusing on computer simulations and state-of-the-art design programs to support Michigan’s manufacturing industry. The Education Department at Flint Institute of Arts Providing teachers, home school parents and volunteers with creative ways to instill a passion for art in their students, the educator workshops at the Flint Institute of Arts are also an excellent way for current teachers to continue their art education. The workshops teach educators how to present and create art with their students in all its many forms, from Origami and poetry to sculpture and painting. In addition to inspiration and suggestions for lessons, materials and examples teachers can use in their classrooms, graduate credit through the University of Michigan-Flint is also available for workshop attendees.
