FLINT, Michigan — Duane Miller, who served as interim city administrator under Michael Brown this year, has been named executive vice president of core initiatives at the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Miller, a retired General Motors executive, will oversee core economic development, education and policy initiatives at the GRCC.
“I am extremely fortunate to have Duane Miller join our organization,” said Tim Herman, GRCC chief executive officer, in a news release. “His executive background at General Motors, years of service on local boards and his experience in city government give him a broad perspective on the challenges facing our community. I believe he will be an invaluable asset to our organization and our community as we move into the future. Even more importantly, he will fill a huge gap left by the departure of Mike Brown.”
Brown joined the chamber in late 2008 to help provide leadership in economic development and education programs and left in February to serve as interim mayor until Dayne Walling was elected in August.
Brown now is heading the Flint Area Reinvestment Office.
Miller worked for GM for 37 years, retiring in April 2008 as executive director of GM Service and Parts Operations field operations.
He was born and raised in Flint and sits on the boards for McLaren Regional Medical Center, Flint Area and Convention & Visitors Bureau and Motorcar Parts of America based in California.
The GRCC also promoted Steve Flynn to director of membership services and Karena Hamlet to executive assistant to the CEO.
Flynn has served as the GRCC’s membership services coordinator since October 2007 and Hamlet, who joined the chamber in 2001, is replacing Jan Snavely who is retiring in November.
