Premier Imaging Centers announces Michigan’s FIRST Flash CT Scanner
LOW DOSE Radiation and FLASH SPEED
HEALTHIER CT SCANNING
FASTER THAN EVERY BEATING HEART - The world’s fastest CT scanner
The new Premier Imaging Centers recently installed the WORLD’S FASTEST CT SCANNER; The Siemens Somatom Definition FLASH Dual Source CT Scanner. This CT scanner (also called computerized tomography or CAT Scan) is the FIRST in Michigan and one of only a few in the country. Not only does this CT Scanner use a fraction of radiation than that of traditional scanners, the dual scanners allow higher quality images to be taken in less than a heartbeat! The FLASH CT Scanner offers LOW DOSE, FLASH SPEED, and improved images, taking patient care to a whole new level.
According to a recent New England Journal of MedicineStudy, the growing use of imaging procedures in the United States has raised concerns about exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation in the general population. Premier Imaging Centers’ new FLASH CT Scanner makes CT exams much healthier for patients, exposing the patient to an unprecedented 1mSv or less for Heart Scans. Traditional scanners range from 8 mSv to 40 mSv. (The amount of radiation the average person is exposed to each year from naturally occurring sources is about 3 mSv).
The FLASH speed of this scanner enables a scan of the entire heart in only 250 milliseconds, which is less than 1/2 of a heartbeat!
And in many cases for patients who have a fast pulse or an irregular heartbeat, this new scanner can take images of the heart without the use of beta blockers (used to slow the heart rate), thus yielding clinical and diagnostic advantages, including dose levels below that of a diagnostic cardiac catheterization. This new scanner is closer to a heart catheterization than any other CT on the market.

The extraordinary rotational speed of the X-ray Tube enables a scan speed never before attained. The patient is moved through the CT tube more than 2 times as fast as with any conventional system. The entire body of a person 6 foot 6 inches can be scanned in less than 5 seconds, whereas previous scans took more than 10 minutes from patient preparation to diagnosis. Data is turned into diagnostic outcomes within minutes.
With maximum speed and minimal exposure, the X-CARE feature protects individual organs and the most radiation sensitive body regions, including the female breast and the thyroid.
Another important benefit is the increased quality of the images. Most traditional CT scanners are 16 or 64 slice scanners. The new FLASH Dual Source CT scanner captures 128 slices, providing 256 slices for scans of the heart and thorax.
The new FLASH CT Scanner is especially beneficial for patients who have difficulty holding their breath, restless pediatric patients, obese or adolescent patients, along with the elderly patient as well.
A doctor may recommend a CT scan for many reasons, including:
- To help diagnose muscle and bone disorders, such as bone tumors and fractures
- Pinpoint the location of a tumor, infection or blood clot
- Guide procedures such as surgery, biopsy and radiation therapy
- Detect and monitor diseases such as Cancer or Heart Disease
- Detect internal injuries or internal bleeding
- Abdominal studies
- Vascular studies of the entire body, including the brain, head, neck and legs
